It is rare to see the head coach of the New England Patriots smile, but he could not help but find a sinister pleasure in playing with the New York Jets and letting them out. head coach Adam Gase in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s 33-0 loss.

Facing the 4th and 2nd points of the 33 Jets line and a little over 10 hours, Belichick chose to pull his foot out of Gang Green’s throat and kick the ball. It was not a free kick, the Patriots went as far as possible, which resulted in a delay in the game penalty.
Realizing that Belichick might have wanted to give his bettor a little extra leeway to try to get the ball in the 10 minutes, Gase declined the penalty, which would have led to a stop of the chronometers and 4th and 7th. Instead, the officials spotted the balloon and whistled for the game clock to resume.
Once again, Belichick let the clock end and his players made a false start to give them extra space. And again, Gase refused the penalty.
That’s where the smirk crossed Belichick’s face – not because he was annoyed, but because he had knowingly exploited a flaw in the NFL rules with which Gase apparently did not was not familiar. And in the end, the Patriots had accumulated more than an extra minute late on the clock.
Belichick smiled to the end after the Jets refused the shots on goal: “It was exactly the way the rules were laid. We are able to run a lot of clock without doing anything. “

Let this serve as a lesson to Gase … do not try to play with your Jedi Master if you are not as intimately familiar with the NFL rule book as he is.
