Ford Teases Us With a Super-Cool Focus ST Wagon

It sadly won't come to the US, as Ford has dropped all variants of the Focus compact from its lineup here. The gas engine is the one rated at 276 hp.

So, you love hot hatches, but you also love dogs and want to take them with you wherever you go.

Ford has released the first images of the new Focus ST in load-lugging estate form ahead of orders opening in the summer. But unfortunately, enthusiasts in America won't have the privilege of plunking down their hard-earned cash on this enticing vehicle, as Ford has dropped the Focus from its US lineup (along with the rest of its passenger-car nameplates save for the Mustang).

When Ford unveiled the new Ford Focus ST earlier this year, we knew it wouldn't come to the USA, which is a shame.

As previously announced, the more practical Focus ST model offers the same engine choices as the hatch: a 280 PS (276 hp) 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline unit and a 190 PS (187 hp) 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbo diesel. Well, like the hatch, the ST Wagon can be ordered with a 2,3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine mated to the front axle via either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Other than its longer roofline and additional cargo space, there's nothing to differentiate the Focus ST wagon from the hatch mechanically. But there's still plenty of pluses to entice in ST wagon buyers, as the wagon gets the same limited-slip front differential as well as rev-matching and different drive modes for the occasional dynamic driving experience. Moreover, the Wagon wears ST bodywork and black detailing - to remind us all that no comparable performance SUV comes close - and is offered in only one trim variant, so there's no more worrying about the ST-2 or -3 designation come resale time.
