By CNN: Rashida Tlaib's revisionist Holocaust comments get fact-checked

Tlaib appeared on Yahoo's Skullduggery podcast last week, discussing impeachment efforts and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "And so when I think about a one-state, I think about the fact that, why couldn't we do it in a better way?" she continued. The U.S. previously refused to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the area, in accordance with U.N. Security Council resolution 242, which states that the "inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war and the need to work for a just and lasting peace in which every state in the area can live in security". And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways.

"Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her awful and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust", the president tweeted.

Following her discourse, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La noted that "It's long past time for Speaker Pelosi to take swift action" in respect to those "vile comments". "More than 6 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust; there is nothing "calming" about that fact".

"Unfortunately, this is far from the first display of heinous anti-Semitic comments coming from Democrat House members this year, and it's clear this is now the norm for their caucus", Scalise added.

Tlaib's communications director, Denzel Campbell, responded to Cheney and other Republicans in a statement, saying, "Once again, Republican leaders and right-wing extremists are spreading outright lies to incite hate". Her ancestors did not "provide" "safe haven" to the Jews, they actively tried to impede any Jewish migration to the area before, after, and during the Holocaust, with prominent Palestinian leaders overtly siding with the Nazis.

Tlaib, in turn, accused her critics of "trying to silence" her and advance a "racist and hateful agenda".

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, who served under President Barack Obama, said he understands Tlaib "giving voice to Palestinians' sense of loss", but criticized her anti-Israel policy positions and "the unusual idea" that Palestinians "welcomed Jews fleeing Europe for a haven".

"The Congresswoman did not in any way praise the Holocaust, nor did she say the Holocaust itself brought a calming feeling to her".

Robert Kraft Spa Video Suppressed, Can't Be Used As Evidence, Judge Rules
Whether or not that motion is granted depends on where the prosecutors choose to go from here. Kraft was caught allegedly paying cash for sex acts he received on January 19 and 20.

At Tlaib's Washington, D.C., office after her swearing-in on January 3, a Palestinian-American comedian stuck a post-it note with "Palestine" over the Middle East on a large map in the congresswoman's new office, BuzzFeed News reported.

"Again, this behavior by a bankrupt Republican leadership is unsafe and only increases hateful rhetoric from those who want to cause harm to oppressed people", the statement read. "The Republican party has reached a new low". In fact, what would happen if the roles were reversed, and President Trump - or even Jewish lawmakers - were to say such things about Muslims or blacks, or both?

McCampbell pushed back Monday against the criticism of Tlaib's comments and elaborated on what he says the congresswoman was trying to convey. In addition, the Arab residents revolted against the British, which led to restrictions on Jewish immigration to British Mandatory Palestine, depriving Jews of any "safe haven". "Who doesn't want to be safe?"

Much of the Arab leadership in Mandatory Palestine did not welcome Jewish refugees with open arms.

"People love you and you win".

Following an earlier controversy, the House had passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, but had failed to name Omar or Tlaib.

It was the latest upheaval over the words of some of the first Muslims in Congress after Rep. Ilhan Omar questioned Israel's influence in Washington.
