Firefox Send lets you share 1GB files with no strings attached

Users' files are first encrypted in the browser and then stored in the cloud, so Mozilla will have to pay for both the bandwidth and the storage of those files.

Mozilla has been working on a free tool called "Firefox Send" for some time now, and it should help to alleviate the situation when required.

Firefox Send is now available through the send.firefox.com web portal, but Mozilla said the service would also be available as an Android app in beta later this week. Called Firefox Send, the platform originally launched in 2017 as an experimental service under Firefox Test Pilot. Firefox Send is now out of testing and boasts a magnified 2.5GB file-size limit if you log into Firefox account. Unlike other file hosting services, there is now no paid options.

"Now that it's a keeper, we've made it even better, offering higher upload limits and greater control over the files you share", Nguyen wrote in a Tuesday blog post. They don't need to have a Firefox account to access your file.

After you drag and drop and file (or select it through a popup box), you can choose to have the shareable link detonate after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 20, 50, or 100 downloads, or after 5 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, or 7 days (the default option). The upside is that the files are ephemeral, as they delete themselves as soon as the intended recipient finishes downloading the file. It lets users upload a file on Mozilla's servers and lets them share a link to the uploaded files with their friends. "As with all Firefox apps and services, Send is Private By Design, meaning all of your files are protected, and we stand by our mission to handle your data privately and securely".
