Aston Martin Vanquish Revived as Mid-Engined Supercar

Aston Martin has revealed the new Vanquish Vision concept at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, with the Gaydon-based firm billing the newcomer as a "tantalising preview" of its first series production mid-engined supercar. Emphasizing packaging, weight and aerodynamic efficiency, this concept gives a glimpse at the ingredients Aston Martin wants to see define the marque in the next decade. We do know that the production version of the Vanquish Vision Concept will feature Aston Martin's new V6, set to debut in the AM-RB 003. Its beauty comes from a shift in emphasis from the aggressive, function driven surfaces of Aston Martin Valkyrie and AM-RB 003 to more flowing and sensuous forms, while retaining a resolute athleticism and modernity: "critical qualities in expressing the distinct character and capabilities of what will be Aston Martin's first mid-engined series production supercar".

However, since it's the follow-up to the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which boasts 1,100 horsepower, it's a safe assumption to expect the AM-RB 003 to be faster.

"For example, it has a very distinctive clamshell front fender, with openings so you can see through onto the tyre".

Aston Martin will use a bonded aluminum structure in the production version of this auto.

The Vanquish concept follows up on the announcement of powertrain details for the Valkyrie hypercar, which is also slated to go into production. Created to compete with the likes of the Ferrari F8 and McLaren 720S, the British hypercar would be Aston Martin's first series production mid-engined supercar. It wears a name that fans will instantly recognize: Vanquish. The badge is traditionally reserved for Aston Martin's flagship models. Less technical is a good phrase for the Vanquish Vision concept's looks. Regardless, it's hard not to get excited about a brand like Aston Martin entering this hotly contested corner of the market for the first time.

It's still early days for the project, with production not due to start until 2022.
