The details surrounding the alleged racist and homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett continue to further evolve (or devolve) into extreme messiness.

According to the original statement released by police, Jussie Smollett was beaten by two men who approached him yelling out "racial and homophobic slurs".

Chicago police have arrested two men as potential suspects in the increasingly unusual investigation into last month's attack on Empire star Jussie Smollett, according to multiple local reporters.

The siblings were released without charges on Friday due to "new evidence", a Chicago Police spokesperson said.

Investigators say Smollett "orchestrated" the attack with the brothers.

In the days leading up to this development, nearly every local news outlet in Chicago reported that inside sources claimed the police were investigating the incident as a hoax and had found evidence that Smollett may have set it up.

The brothers were detained by cops on Thursday after they were named as "persons of interest" and later described as "potential suspects".

Fox32 and NBC News also cite Chicago police sources saying the same thing.

Chicago police earlier Saturday said their investigation of the attack had "shifted" following the interrogation of two men.

This report comes just a day after the Chicago Police Department announced on Friday evening that though the brothers originally suspected were released after questioning.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi the police have not confirmed the person's story yet, but plan to interview them on Tuesday. But some people nearly immediately began to question Smollett's story, since it seemed to change on several occasions.

She also added that the company had "never" been ruled out from potentially participating in the country's 5G rollout. Huawei technology is already deployed by all of Britain's major network operators. "So that proves we do not have it".

However, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment, who produce the show, released a statement to ET denying Smollett's character was being dropped from the show.

Speaking to U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Thursday, Smollett denied he had initially told police his attackers were wearing "Make America Great Again" hats and said he was frustrated doubt was being cast over his story. One of the men allegedly put a rope around his neck and poured a bleach-like chemical on the actor.

At that time, police repeatedly said Smollett was cooperating and was considered a victim.

Police searched the home of the two brothers on Wednesday night, finding electronics, shoes, and bleach, according to local reports.

As we've come to the he said, they said portion of the drama, Twitter has plenty of opinions. Reports of the assault drew outrage and support for him on social media, including from US Sen.

Smollett and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago police department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate, they said. "We actually even know in this country that since 9/11 a majority of the terrorist attacks on our soil have been right wing terrorist attacks, a majority of them white supremacist attacks".

"I've heard that it was a date gone bad, which I also resent that narrative", he said.

Police said they combed surveillance video in the heavily monitored downtown Chicago area but were unable to find any footage of the attack. "I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna do that".

Rumors around the case claimed Smollett staged the attack in an effort to stay in the limelight when he learned he could be leaving Empire. "That's ridiculous. And it's offensive".
