Netflix has no plans to cut Bird Box scene despite outcry

The Lac-Mégantic rail disaster clips were bought from a stock-footage vendor.

Her request was declined, but she was assured that the streaming giant would work with its partners and ensure the footage wouldn't be used in future productions.

"Bird Box" is being criticized for using footage of a real-life tragedy to depict a fake one.

Despite many people speaking out about the footage, including the mayor of Lac-Mégantic, the town where the event occurred, Netflix has made a decision to not do anything about it.

The footage concerns a 2013 tragedy in the Quebec town of Lac-Megantic when an unattended train carrying crude oil rolled down an incline, came off the tracks and exploded into a massive ball of fire, killing 47 people. A train derailing dumped millions of gallons of gas into the center of a small Canadian town, starting a fire that consumed most of the downtown area.

He did not respond to requests for comment for this story. "Prosecutor speak for more indictments", he said. Manafort joined Trump's campaign at the end of March 2016 and was promoted to campaign chairman that May.

The mayor of Lac-Megantic, Julie Morin, has decried the use of the footage in an interview with The Canadian Press, calling it "a lack of respect".

The clip appears early in the film, as Malorie (Sandra Bullock) flips through TV channels portraying different scenes from the apocalypse. It first appeared in an episode of Netflix's Travelers-although the series' production company recently apologized for using the footage without first identifying the source, and promised in a statement to remove the clips. "I don't know anyone who died in Lac-Mégantic".

Both "Bird Box" and "Travelers" are now streaming on Netflix. However, as BuzzFeed News noted, Netflix was accused earlier this month of using footage from another fatal train crash that occurred in Belgium in 2010 in its film Death Note. Mudd said in a separate statement that Peacock Alley Entertainment had "no intention to dishonour the tragic events of 2013". The show Travelers, starring Will & Grace's Eric McCormack, used some of the footage in the latest season to show disruption in London after a nuclear bomb.

Netflix spokespeople have declined repeated requests for comment on the controversy.
