MI hires Alabama assistant as offensive coordinator

MI has reportedly found its offensive coordinator.

Multiple reports on Thursday had Gattis heading to Maryland to reunite with new head coach Mike Locksley, who coordinated Alabama's offense alongside.

Gattis takes over an offense that features a former five-star under center in Shea Patterson and a wealth of offensive talent, including receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins, Tarik Black and Ronnie Bell and a potential big-play threat in tight end Nick Eubanks.

Josh Gattis was supposed to be on the move from Alabama to the Big Ten, but he has reportedly changed his mind on the job that he will take.

Gattis has specialized in coaching wide receivers during his first nine years of coaching at the college level.

R. Kelly Under Investigation in Georgia Following New Documentary's Abuse Allegations
In 2002, he was arrested after a video surfaced appearing to show him having sex with and urinating on a 14-year-old girl. But Foxx also said there's no active investigation of Kelly and launching one would require victims and witnesses.

Michigan's offense has been criticized over the last couple of months due to blowout losses at Ohio State and against Florida in the Peach Bowl. Coach Jim Harbaugh worked with wide receivers coach Jim McElwain, running backs coach Jay Harbaugh and passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton, among others, in 2018.

Gattis left Penn State for a job under Nick Saban at Alabama ahead of previous year. He was a graduate assistant at North Carolina before becoming the wide receivers coach at Western Michigan in 2011. That offense was hit-or-miss this season at times, and struggled against big-time competition. Brian Daboll was the team's offensive coordinator in 2017 and he's now the OC for the Buffalo Bills.

Gattis will join the Wolverines after MI went without an offensive coordinator in 2018. Brady Hoke hired Doug Nussmeier to be the team's coordinator and Nussmeier lasted just one season before Hoke was sacked and Harbaugh was hired to take over the program.

The Michigan offense bookended the season with poor performances, however.
