Turkey 'patiently' waiting for Saudi insights into Khashoggi killing

On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that Canadian intelligence officials had heard the recordings of Khashoggi's death, after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he'd shared the recordings with the U.S., France, Germany, Saudi Arabia and others.

'The recordings are really appalling.

But Turkish officials say they played them the recordings but did not hand them over.

Under intensifying pressure, Riyadh has changed its story about Khashoggi's death, first saying he walked out of the consulate the day he disappeared but eventually acknowledging he was killed inside the building.

Speaking in Singapore, where he's attending a regional summit, Bolton said he hadn't heard the recording himself.

Trump now says Saudi Arabia misused US -supplied weapons in the Saudi-led coalition's bombing campaign in Yemen, which has helped trigger the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Asked again if the audio tape provided by Turkey did not link Prince Mohammed to the killing in any way, Bolton said: "I haven't listened to the tape myself but in the assessment of those who have listened to it, that is right".

Erdogan added: "The crown prince says, 'I will clarify the matter, I will do what is necessary.' We are waiting patiently".

"He said this to my special envoys", Erdogan was quoted as saying.

CEO Tim Cook also said the company may fall short of Wall Street sales predictions for the important holiday period. Oclaro Inc., which is being bought by Lumentum, lost 11 per cent, on track for its biggest drop since April.

People familiar with the content of the recording revealed that Mutreb, who is a diplomat and is known to be very close to MBS, spoke to one of the aides of MBS.

After first insisting Khashoggi left the consulate unharmed, Saudi authorities said he was killed in an argument that degenerated into a brawl before finally accepting what Turkey had said virtually from the start - that he was killed in a premeditated hit.

Erdogan has also said that the killing was ordered by the "highest levels" of the Saudi government, without making any specific accusations.

The Canadian government is showing no signs of toughening its stance on arms sales to Saudi Arabia, even after Canada's spy chief heard a recording of the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Turkish officials have not specifically mentioned the Saudi prince.

He also supervised the brief detention, humiliation and beating of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri a year ago.

The Wall Street Journal reported Bolton told reporters Tuesday he had not heard the recording from Turkey but US officials have drawn no conclusions on it connecting Saudi Arabia's defacto day-to-day leader to the murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi, who was a contributor to The Washington Post.

Officials in multiple countries have said they don't think the journalist could have been killed without the knowledge of the prince, the Trump Administration's key ally in the Arab world. Reuters could not immediately verify the Sabah report.

Central Intelligence Agency director Gina Haspel, who visited Turkey last month for information on the investigation, is reported to have heard the audio recordings of the killing.

They include the killing itself and conversations before the operation which Turkey subsequently uncovered, the sources said. Khashoggi's body has never been found, but Sabah reported on Saturday that his killers poured his remains down the drain after dissolving them in acid.
