Speaking about the incident, Indonesian politician Abidin Fikri said that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ignored principles of human rights, "including a right for everyone to live".

Therefore, the House of Representatives Commission IX will question and seek an explanation from the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the issue.

However, Indonesia still sent a diplomatic note to Riyadh, protesting the action.

Saudi Arabia's execution of a migrant maid has sparked diplomatic tension with Indonesia at a time when the kingdom is facing worldwide condemnation for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

She killed her employer, Suud Malhaq Al Utaibi, in 2009 before fleeing the city with 37,970 riyals ($10,000) in cash and a wristwatch, only to be captured and raped by nine men who promised to take her to Mecca. She worked as a nurse for a family in the western city of Ta'if.

Tusilawati's death comes amid mounting pressure on Saudi Arabia to answer for the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The stance was reiterated during al-Jubeir's recent visit to Indonesia.

"It turned out that Indonesia's request [to protect the rights of migrant workers] was ignored by executing Tuti".

But safety concerns led Indonesia to temporarily bar domestic workers from going to the Middle East from 2011 to 2013.In 2015, it barred them from going to 21 countries, mostly in the Middle East, after Saudi Arabia executed two Indonesian domestic workers in one week on murder convictions.

Observors say Indonesia is unable to criticize other countries that uphold capital punishment without appearing hypocritical.
