Planned Kim summit narrowed down to 3 or 4 locations

The Trump administration maintains it's made good progress on getting North Korea to denuclearize despite no verifiable actions towards this taking place.

Despite meeting Moon three times and holding a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in June, Kim has yet to provide a convincing sign that he's ready to deal away his nuclear weapons, which he may see as his strongest guarantee of survival.

"I just can't leave now", Trump was quoted as saying aboard Air Force One, referring to his campaign activities that do not allow for a summit before the November 6 elections.

"I think it's going to be incredibly economically successful, and I want to make it that way", Trump said.

Pompeo said the measures that the North has taken so far are not enough to agree to announce the end of the Korean War.

The government is reviewing whether to remove the sanctions aimed at furthering diplomacy to ease tensions and reach denuclearization, the Associated Press reported.

"The fact that they've had these meetings-both with secretary of state Pompeo and with President Trump-and have held back from a clear sign that they're moving forward, makes me kind of wonder", Christopher Hill, a former U.S. ambassador to South Korea and North Korea negotiator under president George W. Bush, told Bloomberg Television.

Pompeo recently visited Kim in Pyongyang in an effort to set up another summit between him and Trump following months of friction in lower-level talks that saw North Korea accuse Washington of "gangster-like" demands on denuclearization.

The Pyongyang summit was in part created to help revive nuclear talks between the North and the U.S., which were on shaky ground after Trump cancelled Pompeo's visit to the North in late August, citing a lack of progress. Both leaders have publicly voiced support for another meeting. They said the North Korean leader appeared simply to be repackaging and dragging out past pledges.

Such a move by South Korea would have little immediate effect since US -led worldwide sanctions remain in place.

As part of his delegation to Pyongyang, Pompeo brought along Stephen Biegun, his special representative to North Korea and the diplomat expected to take on more of the day-to-day negotiating with Kim's regime.

He added that Kim had said he was ready to allow worldwide inspectors into North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear testing site and the Sohae missile engine test facility as soon as the United States and North Korea agreed on logistics.

The North has insisted that sanctions should be lifted before any progress in nuclear talks.
