Hamilton closing on F1 title at Japanese GP

"I think definitely I am still allowed to win, [but] it will depend on the situation".

Hamilton has said that he is hoping to hand a win to Bottas once the title is safe however, surely that would be as painful a gesture for the Finn as being told to yield his own win.

"So there have been times when Valtteri hasn't be in the top five and there has been a Ferrari, me and a Ferrari - and the Ferraris have worked together. Hopefully we are a bit closer".

"It's a hard dynamic because the team works together to win the championship but they also want to win the drivers' championship so they are conflicted because they don't want to favour either driver".

The bottom line is, for the sake of making one individual driver feel all nice and cosy, you could run the risk at this stage of the season of not winning the drivers' championship. It's completely clear to me that they made the right decision, in the same way that McLaren made the right decision in favouring Mika in those situations, because he went on to win the world championship against Michael.

"We are a strong team and we do want to win both of the titles, and we need to work as a team if we want to do that". I would do it again. I can't any more fight for the championship. That's how it is.

The move to allow Hamilton past could've taken place at the very first corner of the race itself as many teams have elected to do before, however, the Russian chose to battle his teammate for the lead, forcing the defending world champion to be patient and wait for his opportunity. The team might not want to sacrifice my race as well.

Vettel is still hoping he can revive his title campaign.

Former Republic of Ireland manager McCarthy has twice won promotion to the Premier League as champions with Sunderland and Wolves. Aston Villa are preparing to sack manager Steve Bruce.

"The same rules are not always applied to the same things", Hamilton said.

"I think I've said many times that we have a strong auto, but I don't think, against the people's opinions, that we had a dominant vehicle at any point this year", said Vettel.

He said: 'Everyone must accept it and move forward. I then had a conversation with Ron (Dennis) once I got back to the garage to try and understand why the call was made.

"We attack every weekend and every weekend is different, tracks are different and circumstances are different".

He added: "This is my favourite track in the world, so I'd better enjoy it and not spoil it by starting to count the things that are against me".
