Henry and Ranieri in Aston Villa frame after Bruce is sacked

Sky Bet Championship club Aston Villa are searching for a new manager after parting company with former boss Steve Bruce earlier today and it is thought that Shakhtar Donetsk's Fonseca is one of the managers who they would like to speak to about filling the vacancy.

But Tuesday's 3-3 draw at home to Preston North End proved the final straw, leaving Villa with one win in 10 across all competitions, while the match was marred by an incident which saw Bruce targeted with a cabbage thrown from the crowd.

Assistant boss Colin Calderwood and coaches Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh have also left Villa Park, with under-23s manager Kevin MacDonald taking charge of Saturday's game at Millwall.

Bruce, who led Villa to the Play-Off Final a year ago where they lost to Fulham, has overseen a terrible start to this Championship campaign, with only three league wins on the board.
