Hurricane Gordon: Latest GFS & Euro Models Predict Track

THURSDAY: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms likely Thursday, with high temperatures back into the upper 80s.

A hurricane warning is in effect from the mouth of Mississippi's Pearl River to the border between Florida and Alabama.

Gordon formed into a tropical storm near the Florida Keys early Monday as it lashed the southern part of the state with heavy rains and high winds. Those two counties are expected to receive as much as 2 to 5 more inches before Wednesday evening.

Okaloosa and Walton County will continue to receive showers and thunderstorms throughout the morning and into the afternoon, according to Werner. "Sometimes it starts pushing not only water across but debris, logs and things of that nature, which makes it very treacherous to get across", said Jeff Collier, mayor of Dauphin Island, Alabama.

The body of a child was found inside a Florida home just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday in what's believed to be the first storm-related death. At least one death has been attributed to the storm; an oak tree fell on a mobile home in Pensacola, Florida - where the wind was gusting around 61 miles per hour (98 kph) - reportedly killing a child.

"I just hope I don't have to throw out everything in my refrigerator when I get home", he said.

Tropical Storm Gordon blew across Florida over Labor Day and made landfall along the northern Gulf Coast at near-hurricane strength.

US oil producer Anadarko Petroleum Corp evacuated workers and shut production at two offshore oil platforms on Monday, and other companies with production and refining operations along the Gulf Coast said they were securing facilities. Red flags flew over Pensacola-area beaches in Florida's Panhandle, where swimming and wading in the Gulf of Mexico was prohibited. Okaloosa Beach Safety Division Chief Rich Huffnagle said the surf is coming in Wednesday at about 5 to 7 feet.

"All the outside furniture has to come in, but honestly it's not even a freak-out kind of hurricane, so we're not super-stressed right now", Manager Ashley Peeples said around midday Tuesday.

Gordon was expected to produce total rain accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres over the western Florida Panhandle, southwest Alabama, southern and central MS, northeastern Louisiana and southern Arkansas, the agency said.

On the forecast track, the NHC expects the centre of Gordon will move across the lower Mississippi Valley today and tonight.
