Miss America Org. upset with Cara Mund's claims

Now, Carlson is facing a chorus of 19 former Miss Americas calling for her resignation.

She was also supported publicly Monday by Miss America 2010, Caressa Cameron-Jackson, who told ABC's "Good Morning America" "absolutely" when asked if Carlson and the whole pageant board should step down.

In a Twitter post late Sunday night, Carlson, the former Fox News host and #MeToo activist, wrote that she was "surprised and saddened beyond words" by Mund's claims. "Our chair and CEO have systematically silenced me, reduced me, marginalized me, and essentially erased me in my role as Miss America in subtle and not-so-subtle ways on a daily basis".

"Actions have consequences", Carlson wrote, addressing herself directly to Mund.

Right away, the new leadership delivered an important message: There will be only one Miss America at a time, and she isn't me. "Friday, as an organization, we learned that $75,000 in scholarships which would have been the first scholarship increase in years is no longer on the table as a direct result of the explosive allegations in your letter". 'We've acknowledged your grievances and taken many steps to try to make your experience a good one'.

Carlson, the former Fox News anchor and 1989 Miss America victor, became chairman of Miss America Organization a year ago after the prior regime, led by former WMA titan Sam Haskell, was ushered out amid scandal about email correspondence that disparaged past Miss America winners and critics. The next Miss America is set to be crowned September 9 in Atlantic City, N.J., in a ceremony to air live from 9-11 p.m. ET on ABC.

'The impact won't stop there.

Cameron-Jackson said she disagrees with Carlson's statement.

"Without those details laid out, we really feel like we don't know what's going to happen and who's going to be taking over because somebody has to", she said. "I don't think that it's also fair if someone has [said], "You hurt me" to say, 'No, I didn't'".

There is an open rebellion at Miss America, as 19 former pageant winners are calling on embattled Chairwoman Gretchen Carlson to resign.

She said state licensees like Miss North Dakota could be crucial as Miss America responds to its leadership woes.

"We are no longer a pageant", Carlson said on "GMA" at the time.

When it was announced that the beauty pageant would be getting rid of the swimsuit competition, it was an unpopular decision within the pageant community.

Many thought changes to the contest were happening too far, too fast.

When Faris called into question the timing of the former pageant winners" demand for a leadership shakeup, so close to this year's contest, Cameron-Jackson replied: "it's never the wrong time to do the right thing. "Gretchen Carlson went to Stanford".

A month before the next Miss America is crowned, the pageant is divided after the swimsuit competition was ditched in June.

"And so that's what this is really about and I hate that people are trying to make it a swimsuit issue when it's more about a transparency and a leadership issue".

"Actually she's bullied my sister here, Heather Whitestone", Charles said.
