British woman rescued after spending 10 hours in Adriatic Sea

The British woman, who has not been named, is said to have fallen into the sea from the cruise ship Norwegian Star while on route from the port of Vargarola near Pula, Croatia, in the northern Adriatic towards the south.

The 46-year-old woman gave her name as Kay during a brief appearance on Croatian television before she was taken to an ambulance.

She identified herself as Kay from England, age 46. Three hours later she was spotted swimming more than a mile from where she went into the water - and more than 60 miles from shore - by rescuers on the helicopter.

A British cruise passenger was rescued after falling into the sea from a cruise ship off the coast of Croatia.

The cruise company is expected to review closed-circuit cameras to determine the sequence of events.

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said: "A report was made that a guest aboard Norwegian Star had gone overboard while the ship was returning to Venice". When the crew realized that someone had fallen into the water, they stopped the ship and mounted a search.
