Former U.S. security leaders blast Trump for yanking John Brennan’s clearance

Justice Department official Bruce Ohr-who President Trump says aided his political enemies during the campaign-may be the next person to have his security clearance revoked. "I suspect I'll be taking it away very quickly", Trump told journalists.

The president said he does not trust "many of those people on that list" and does not think they are "good people". Ohr's wife worked for Fusion GPS.

"This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics".

He wrote in Thursday's New York Times that Trump "clearly has become more desperate to protect himself and those close to him".

After revoking security clearance from former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan, Donald Trump reportedly is prepared to exact the same vengeance on other individuals who he sees as political enemies.

In another pushback against the president, retired Navy Admiral William McRaven, who oversaw the operation that killed Osama bin Laden, praised Brennan and asked Trump to revoke his security clearance as well, writing in a Washington Post opinion piece that he would "consider it an honor".

Still, Trump said Mueller should be allowed to finish a report on potential Russian Federation meddling in the election that Russian Federation has denied.

"I think Bruce Ohr is a disgrace", the president said of the career Justice Department official, who conservatives believe was a conduit for anti-Trump information to reach the Federal Bureau of Investigation during and after the campaign, including the Steele dossier containing salacious and unproven allegations about Mr. Trump.

The letter, released Thursday, defends Brennan, whose security clearance was revoked in what critics say was retribution for speaking out against Trump.

He said that Brennan has somewhat transformed into a cable news pundit and has been extremely critical of the administration, unlike Woolsey and other former intelligence officials.

He also said that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was conflicted but said he was willing to allow the investigation to continue.

"On Wednesday, Trump cited "lying", frenzied commentary", and "erratic conduct" as reasons he'd revoked Brennan's security clearance.

The only question remaining is whether the collusion amounts to a "constituted criminally liable conspiracy", Brennan wrote.

Brennan said earlier this week he would "not relent" despite the removal of his clearance.

The newspaper reports that Trump called the investigation a "rigged witch hunt. a sham" and went on to declare, "And these people led it". But they noted the power play also could be used to reinforce a case alleging obstruction of justice, following the president's firing of former FBI Director James Comey and his repeated tweets calling for the investigation to end.
