Two stabbed in brawl before Rangers’ Europa League game with Osijek

Steven Gerrard has refused to become involved in a spat with Osijek midfielder Robert Mudrazija after the Croatian called the Rangers manager a "tiny man".

The match at Ibrox finished 1-1, with Rangers progressing to the next round thanks to a 2-1 win on aggregate.

"I think we had some good chances in the game at important times, and if we take one of them, the game is dead", added Gerrard.

"I had watched Ryan from the outside before I came here and I knew about his big move from Aberdeen". But it's not until you get close up to these players that you see what they are about and how hungry they are, how they live their lives.

Gerrard made just one change from the first-leg, and it seems to fair to suggest that it was a change that few would probably have been expecting as Jamie Murphy dropped down to the bench for the rematch.

Gerrard was delighted by the performance of midfielder Ryan Jack, making only his second start in the calendar year following a knee injury.

'I'm absolutely delighted with the players and now it's all about dusting ourselves down for a big game at the weekend'.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg in Croatia, Rangers doubled their aggregate lead through Nikola Katic's 53rd-minute goal.

Nikola Katic's second-half header put the Gers in control and while Borna Berisic ensured a nervy finale with a late deflected equaliser, Rangers sealed their progression.

"I thought he played with aggression and I felt like he ran very hard for the team and he got an assist in the game so he should be in a good place, but he's played his way back into contention".

"But that's the reason we brought in leaders and characters like Allan McGregor".

He said: "Talking doesn't win you football matches, it doesn't get you results".

'We thrive on all that kind of talk. "Now, we park it up and get ready for a big game against Aberdeen".
