McCarthy: FISA Warrant Application Against Page 'Appalling'

Says the newly released documents underlying the FBI's surveillance of former campaign adviser Carter Page show the Steele dossier "was responsible for starting" Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

At a joint news conference with the Russian leader, Trump said he had no reason to believe that Russia would have interfered in the 2016 United States presidential election, contradicting the consensus of the USA intelligence community; he later said he misspoke.

The government had monitored Page under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and the heavily redacted documents were made public after media organisations sued for their release under the Freedom of Information Act.

US President Donald Trump called once again Monday for an end to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian Federation interference in the 2016 election, insisting it has been "discredited". Agents believed Page had been "the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government", according to the documents.

The president on Sunday shifted blame for Russian rhetoric to the Obama administration for its response to Russian election interference in 2016. Trump tweeted about the release of the documents early Sunday morning from Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is spending the weekend.

A former campaign adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump is denying he has ever worked as an agent for the Russian government.

In a Sunday appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," Page called the FISA warrant application "literally a complete joke", and claimed it misled the courts.

USADA said in a statement that Lochte "fully cooperated" with the investigation. "I wasn't taking anything illegal", said Lochte. It is the 33-year-old's second suspension since the Rio Olympics.

Investigators first applied to the FISA court for permission to surveil Mr Page in October 2016. The lawmaker rebuked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for missing "a really good opportunity" to promote transparency by not disclosing that the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele was funded by the DNC and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign.

"The FBI gave the court enough information to evaluate Steele's credibility", Kris wrote, also noting that the judges who signed off on the FISA applications were all appointed by Republican presidents.

"And let's remember that application and those renewals have been vindicated in substantial part by Carter Page's own words in the letter I think you asked him about, and in which Carter Page acknowledged being an informal adviser to the Kremlin".

President Donald Trump is calling for an end to the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller after it was revealed that the FBI knowingly used unverified information and misled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to spy on the Trump campaign. "I sat in on some meetings".

The FBI said it suspected Page had been "collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government". "Mr. Page is a former foreign policy adviser to a candidate for US president". "So bad for our country!"

By March 2016, Mr Trump had identified Mr Page as one of a handful of campaign foreign policy advisers.

Amid the blowback, Mr Trump surprised Americans - including director of national intelligence Dan Coats - by announcing he had invited Mr Putin to visit Washington later this year. He said the materials put the "conspiracy theories to rest", while criticizing Trump's decision to declassify their existence during a pending investigation.
