British Airways says IT issue resolved, trying to minimise disruption

Passengers at the airport on Wednesday described chaotic scenes as people tried to catch flights and complained there was a lack of information from the airline.

One passenger was told that delays could be up to "three to five hours". It's not terribly helpful... They can't rebook the flights because they've got no computer system.

A "systems issue" was cited as leading to a backlog of flights and a series of cancellations.

"An issue with a supplier IT system was resolved overnight".

British Airways (BA), which has borne the brunt of the computer freakout, said that there would be knock-on delays, which is something of an understatement with some passengers saying their delay could be up to 15 hours.

Royals mark Prince Louis’ christening
Reproduced by dressmaker to the Queen Angela Kelly, it was worn by his older siblings, George and Charlotte at their christenings. That said, photographer Matt Holyoak did include a hidden tribute to the British monarch in Louis's official christening photots.

All flights coming into Heathrow were also suspended for a period. "Emergency services responded using our regular safety procedures, and our operations have started to resume".

Terminal 5 was further affected by the situation - leading to an organisational nightmare for BA managers. "We are doing everything we can to keep any knock on disruption to our services to a minimum", British Airways said in an emailed statement.

IT'S BEEN another morning of chaos for passengers at London's Heathrow Airport after another IT glitch has hit the aviation industry.

It is understood that the air traffic control tower has been evacuated, flights are being diverted and planes preparing to take off have been grounded.

Brits will be hoping the London Heathrow problems end quickly, given that we are in the busiest few weeks of the year for sun seekers jetting overseas on holiday.
