Protests erupt after man fatally shot by Chicago police

Police accounts differ slightly by the media report, but officers say they encountered the man on foot, confronted him, and when he became combative and reached for a weapon in his trousers they opened fire, per CNN.

Chicago Police released body cam video Sunday from a fatal shooting in the South Shore neighborhood. Some people screamed "murderers" as officers lined up against them.

The video shows several officers surrounding Augustus and asking him questions. Officers pulled people to the ground and struck them with batons. At least 80 law enforcement officers responded to the protest, according to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Nader Issa.

Several Chicago police officers were injured when protesters threw bottles and rocks on Saturday.

Police described the video and said they would release footage of Saturday's shooting from officer-worn body cameras later Sunday.

"An armed confrontation ensued resulting in an officer discharging his weapon and fatally striking the offender", the statement said, adding that police recovered a gun and two ammunition magazines at the scene. The man later died at Jackson Park Hospital.

No police officers were injured, Guglielmi said. There were no further details given about the charges.
