FBI Agent: 'Disgusting' Comments On Gold Star Family Inspired Anti-Trump Texts

Strzok is on Capitol Hill Thursday to answer questions and defend himself, after his anti-Trump text messages with then-FBI official Lisa Page placed him under intense scrutiny, particularly from Republicans.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers openly yelled at one another as House Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert Goodlatte said Strzok needed to answer GOP questions and suggested they might recess the hearing and hold him in contempt.

"I will not, based on direction of the FBI. answer that question, because it goes to matters which are related to the ongoing investigations being undertaken by the special counsel's office", Strzok replied, at a joint hearing of the Judiciary and Oversight committees.

Democrats loudly objected to Goodlatte's attempts to force Strzok to answer Gowdy's first question about how many witnesses were interviewed in the opening days of Russian Federation probe.

Strzok did not respond to Gohmert's outburst about the affair with Page. Bannon had testified to the House Intelligence Committee previous year, but did not answer any question not approved by the White House counsel.

Peter Strzok is about to testify.

Strzok, who was an Army officer before joining the FBI, repeatedly denied acting on his anti-Trump views while he worked on the Hillary Clinton email investigation and while he worked on the Mueller probe.

Strzok, who was part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe, repeatedly denied any bias toward Trump.

Jordan was focusing on how the FBI obtained copies of the famous Steel dossier, which describes years of collusion between President Donald Trump's associates and Russian Federation, but Strzok was not allowed to speak specifically about the ongoing investigation. "We don't want to read text message after text message dripping with bias against one of the two presidential candidates".

"I testify today with significant regret, recognizing that my texts have created confusion and caused pain for people I love", Strzok said.

Strzok again stated he could not answer and Goodlatte said the Committee would consider a contempt citation.

Khan said Hillary Clinton, by contrast, "called [his] son the best of America".

The response was met with some applause in the committee room. The text and emails may have been discovered in May of 2017, but the bias existed and was manifest a year and a half before that.

Strzok was removed from Mueller's team when media outlets obtained and published his text messages with Page. But Jeffress, her lawyer, pushed back, arguing in a statement that Page needed "clarification of the scope of the Committee's interest in interviewing her and access to relevant documents" before she sat for an interview with the panels. "But the thought of exposing that information never crossed my mind", he said. Strzok further went on to emphasize that no text he sent would ever influence his conduct in an investigation against the president, and that Republican attempts to undermine the FBI were a "victory notch in Putin's belt".

Strzok said he doesn't remember writing the text.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok emphasized that he never allowed his political beliefs to seep into his actions as an Federal Bureau of Investigation official.

The sharp tone of Strzok's statement set the stage for a contentious hearing following hours of closed-door questioning last week.

FBI Director Chris Wray says the FBI has referred to internal disciplinary officials employees who were singled out for criticism in the inspector general's report. Strzok said, but was cut off by Gowdy.
