Astros send struggling Ken Giles to minors

The Astros have optioned righthander pitcher Ken Giles to Triple A after his ninth-inning meltdown Tuesday night, the team announced Wednesday.

Giles, the Houston Astros reliever, was brought into Tuesday's game against the Oakland A's in the ninth inning with a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The Athletics tied the game at 4 in the 9th inning. He allowed three consecutive singles with nobody out in the ninth as the A's pulled to 4-1. Left hander Cionel Perez has been recalled to replace him.
