Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood has succeeded in avoiding imprisonment in her case of domestic violence. At its trial on October 31, the Marion County District Court accepted the Portwood plea that resulted in some of the charges against her.
According to Radar Online two counts against Portwood were rejected in the case – Count 2, which had committed criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and Count 3, domestic battery committed in the presence of a child under 16.
Portwood pleaded guilty to Count 4 – Harassment – and the judge sentenced her to 910 days in jail. However, 906 of those days were suspended and she received credit for the time she was already serving. That means Portwood won’t spend another day in prison.
The 29-year-old will instead spend those 906 days on probation, and the court also ordered her to complete parenting classes and a 26-week battery intervention program. While she is on trial, Portwood must also submit to random drug tests that will be conducted at least once a month at the discretion of her probation officer, and must pay $ 1,285 in fees and court fees.
Police arrested Portwood on July 5 for domestic violence after attacking her baby dad Andrew Glennon while holding their one-year-old son James. After the arrest, Glennon filed a house ban and that contact ban remains in force after the conviction of Portwood.
The only way that Portwood is allowed to communicate with Glennon is through the co-parenting app of Our Family Wizard and she gets three uncontrolled visits a week with her son.
The former couple also reached a brokerage agreement for custody of their son, and Glennon has agreed to stay with James in Indiana instead of returning to his home state of California. Glennon was allegedly assigned James’ primary physical custody, and he shares joint legal custody with Portwood.
This is a good deal for Portwood because the state had mountains of evidence against her in her criminal case, including multiple audio recordings of her verbal abuse and threatening to kill Glennon.
New episodes of Teen Mom OG will return to MTV in 2023.
