Matthijs De Ligt 'interested' in move to Man Utd

Ajax captain Matthjis de Ligt remains open to the prospect of joining Manchester United this summer, according to the Telegraph. A few days later, Catalan TV station Esport 3 reported that the player's agent, Mino Raiola, had met with Barcelona representatives in Montecarlo on April 12 to agree terms for the Ajax defender's move to Camp Nou.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for new players with strong personalities, and he sees De Ligt as the flawless player around whom to build a team, given the 19-year-old has proven his qualities by leading Ajax to the Champions League semi-final this season.

United missed out on qualification for next season's Champions League and the report adds that the club themselves did not expect to be one of the favourites to sign De Ligt - especially given the interest shown in him from elsewhere already.

Man Utd are also willing to trump Barcelona's contract offer, according to the Telegraph, so with United, Barcelona and Liverpool among the clubs battling for his signature, De Ligt has a lot to consider over the coming weeks.

Manchester United have also been linked but a move to Old Trafford hasn't been suggested by one of their former stars who made 79 appearances for the Red Devils before he was bombed out by Alex Ferguson. "It'd be great to see him come up against better players, in a better league, not just every other week but every weekend".

"Same goes for Liverpool".

"After that, you have to get used to the level and the quality of your opponents". "I believe the people around him, and de Ligt himself, are intelligent enough to choose the option which means he'll play more often. In that case, money won't make a difference".
