Football coach hailed as hero for disarming gunman outside high school

Twitter reacted Friday to the news that the staff member who wrestled a gunman to the ground at Parkrose High School was former University of OR football player Keanon Lowe.

Keanon Lowe, who is now a football and track coach and security guard at Parkrose High School, told reporters as he was leaving a police interview late Friday that he was exhausted but relieved at the outcome, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

The incident took place just before noon Friday near the school's tennis courts, according to Sgt. Brad Yakots.

Students interviewed by the newspaper say they were in a government class when a male student entered with a gun but was nearly immediately tacked by Lowe.

Lowe, a former star wide receiver for the Ducks, also works as a security guard at the school.

Original story: A Parkrose High School employee "wrestled" a man carrying a gun to the ground this morning, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). Investigators were still working to determine if any shots were fired during the incident.

There are no other suspects.
