Samsung delays Galaxy Fold indefinitely

According to a fresh email that Samsung has sent out to those who pre-ordered the device, the company is "making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold" but a new release date can not be confirmed right now. And, even if you tell Samsung you want to keep your pre-order past May 31st, you can still cancel it after that point as long as it hasn't shipped yet.

Problems with the Galaxy Fold first came to light after some US-based tech reviewers kicked off about the build quality of the samples they had received. We'll keep you posted when we do.

Samsung added that customers who preordered the device will not be charged until the item ships.

Samsung had unveiled their tablet-sized Galaxy Fold at a launch event in San Francisco, in the United States, back in February of this year. In one instance, white lines popped up on the display, and soon after that, the display stopped working. The Galaxy Fold was supposed to ship to consumers last month, but the company delayed it indefinitely, and it seems like a new release date is still not available.

Samsung has handled the Galaxy Fold debacle badly from start to finish, from the way it initially blamed reviewers for causing the screen damage, to the way it put pressure fix specialists iFixit to pull its critical teardown of the device from its site.

Several journalists reported the inside screens flickering, freezing and finally dying on their test units within the first couple days, the Associated Press reported.

Two separate issues may have caused the foldable screen to malfunction on those review units, including debris and user error. The letter makes us think there may be further issues. Then it disappeared from headlines altogether, just to resurface with an April launch, revelead by Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh.
