Dallas vs. St. Louis Prediction, Preview, and Odds

At that point, it doesn't matter what the Caps do on the road so long as they continue to defend home ice. The then-14-year-old Bishop was in the stands at Savvis Center in St. Louis cheering on his beloved St. Louis Blues as they swept the Dallas Stars.

"He is, if not the highest reason, the top two reasons of why we're in this position right now", said Stars forward Tyler Seguin.

We can debate the impact of the pointed verbal attack, but the Stars found their identity under first-time NHL head coach Jim Montgomery and are playing their best hockey when it matters most. He has been patient with his lines but made the right moves when necessary, such as shuffling the top line in the first round.

With all the first-round upsets, Boston is the only team with more points than Washington that has not been eliminated and they face a Game 7 of their own on Tuesday.

"It's kind of amusing to think that I'm playing for Dallas going back home", Bishop said. "They defend really well", said Montgomery.

"It's something where the fans can definitely have an impact from the aspect of if it gets loud, they can impact a game and teams can feed off their home-ice advantage", Dowd said. The Jets would pull a goal back after the midway point of the 3rd period and would cut the deficit to 3-2 in the last minute of the game but it was too little too late as the Blues held on to punch their ticket to the second round. Binnington, a rookie, barely looked nervous (despite Winnipeg fan taunts suggesting otherwise) in his first playoff action, with a.908 save percentage and 2.63 GAA, numbers that are actually inflated by a 6-3 loss in Game 3. During an incredible regular season, Binnington had only five losses, but two of them were against the Stars.

On the back end, each team features a nice blend of skill and sandpaper.

Of note, Captain Alex Pietrangelo leads the Blues in post season scoring with seven assists.

For the Stars, John Klingberg and Esa Lindell are on the top pairing and rookie Miro Heiskanen is simply a treat to watch.

He's up for the challenge of going head-to-head against Seguin. During the playoffs, St Louis ranks 5th in the league in power play conversions at 26.3% and 9th in penalty kill at 78.6%.

"We wanted to close it out today and don't have to deal with going back there", said Klingberg, whose first goal of the playoffs came after five assists.

That has not played a major factor in this series, however, as the matchups have remained largely consistent through the six games.

"Well it wasn't from a lack of opportunities", said Berube. Every rink is different in that way, and you try to test that out. "He just gets to the hard areas to score goals, that's what you've got to do in the playoffs".

The flip-side of the special teams matchup could very well decide this series.

Given the quality of goaltending that Ben Bishop of the Stars and Jordan Binnington of the Blues are expected to provide, finding a way to get bodies to the net is going to be essential in what figures to be another tight series. For the Blues, Selke Trophy finalist Ryan O'Reilly has been one of the best two-way forwards in the game, and Vladimir Tarasenko is a big-time threat, though he can be streaky; he had only two points (both of them goals) in the six games against Winnipeg. Roman Josi scored the first goal of the series to give the Preds a 1-0 lead 12 minutes in and they took that lead into the locker room.

The Stars are 6-1 in their last seven games as a road underdog.

The Stars' penalty-kill was a flawless 15 for 15 in the first round, but that was against the worst power-play in the National Hockey League. Will there be a Barclay Goodrow in this series? That bodes well for Washington as it hosts Game 7 on Wednesday.
