A.J. Freund Still Missing From Crystal Lake

Freund disappeared from his home in Crystal Lake, and it's still a mystery what happened to him. The reports show police were concerned about the family's living conditions since at least September.

The Northwest Herald reported Tuesday that the day the boy disappeared, Cunningham was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant just after she and Andrew Freund Sr. went to the Crystal Park Police Department to speak with investigators about their son.

"We love you very much".

Crystal Lake police issued a press release with Andrew's description Thursday but didn't issue an AMBER alert "due to law enforcement being unable to confirm an abduction occurred", the department said.

Police say they boy's mother, JoAnn Cunningham, is refusing to cooperate with detectives.

The father goes on to say that he got home from a doctor's appointment between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. and went to check on Andrew and wake him up, but he was not in his room or in the home. The pair said they had last seen their son around 9 p.m. the night before, the Crystal Lake Police Department said in a statement. Cunningham told officers that responded that she believed someone had stolen her phone and medications. Her attorney, George Kililis, did not immediately return a call for comment on Monday, but late last week he told reporters that Cunningham had been cooperative "until at some point we got the impression that she may be considered a suspect". But CBS 2 did obtain police reports and notes detailing the disgusting conditions witnessed during police calls to the home before Andrew was reported missing.

The officers also noticed a "large bruise" on the right hip of one of the boys and reported the injury to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which had been in contact with the family multiple times since 2013 when Andrew was born with opiates in his system.

Police also released five years' worth of police reports documenting calls related to the family's home. The paper said she was also scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday on the traffic case. The allegations were unfounded, he added.

The Crystal Lake Police Department joined forces with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday in their ongoing search for AJ.

Freund Sr. told the dispatcher he had searched the home and garage "completely" and checked the local park, school and gas station down the road where the family sometimes took AJ to "buy treats". They have said the boy's mother has not cooperated with investigators.

Kotlowski on Tuesday denied the lawyers' claims, saying: "We do not have her listed as a suspect, we do not now have any suspects in this case". He was last seen wearing a blue Mario sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

AJ is described as standing at 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 70 pounds. As a result of the findings, Andrew was taken into protective custody as a 1-month-old but was returned to his parents when he was 18 months old.
