Samsung Galaxy Fold launch events postponed in China, Hong Kong

Launch events scheduled for this week in the countries have been postponed. The company hasn't announced revised dates as yet.

Samsung also delayed two media events it had planned for the Fold, one in Shanghai, and one in Hong Kong.

Several journalists reported the inside screens flickering, freezing and finally dying on their test units within the first couple days. On Monday, the company announced it was delaying the device's launch. A rescheduled launch date hasn't been decided, but it's expected that we'll know more in the coming weeks.

As for the issues, an internal investigation is still said to be ongoing, unsurprisingly, but the purported cause is suggested as being down to the hinge design "and extra pressure applied to the internal screen" as a result. However, Samsung quickly reiterated that the April 26th launch plans would not be changed in the U.S. Unfortunately, that's not the case in China, Singapore, and Spain.

When attempting to log into a Samsung Account through the Galaxy Wearable app, the companion application for all of Samsung's recent wearable devices, only a white screen is visible. But it hasn't confirmed when a redesigned Galaxy Fold will arrive.

Pre-orders opened for the device last month on Samsung's website, but the device will also be available through Best Buy, AT&T, T-Mobile and Samsung stores in the U.S. Some reviewers have found that the Galaxy Fold comes with a protective layer that appears to be a screen protector which when removed breaks the screen. The Fold was meant to be a category-defining device, offering users the flexibility to use it both as a regular phone and a full-sized tablet for on-the-go productivity and more.

One of the Galaxy Fold's problems was that there was no clear communication that the screen protector on the front of the display should not be pulled off. It is only truly accessible to those who want the latest and greatest gadgets available and have the money to obtain them.
