Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition Celebrates 50 Years of Godzilla

Nissan is keen to celebrate its performance heritage this year.

The Nissan GT-R is 50 years old, and Nissan is celebrating in style with a fresh, tech-packed special edition that takes its inspiration from the racetrack.

The 2020 GT-R receives a host of updated engine components and revised chassis tuning.

Although the power numbers of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 (600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque) have not changed, acceleration response was improved by 20 percent. A new titanium muffler with burnished blue tips has also been added.

GT-R features a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with a refined "R mode", made for both road and track. Nissan says the contact patch has been boosted by 11%. The car's track-focused R mode is also retuned to provide more aggressive downshifts, and the suspension is tweaked for better stability in the corners as well as a better overall ride. "Once you take hold of the steering wheel, you will immediately know that no other auto in the world delivers as much satisfaction to the driver, both physically and spiritually". Dubbed as Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition. Stay tuned for driving impressions once we can get our hands on the special edition models.

The Nismo gets a new turbocharger design that's been pulled straight from the GT-R GT3 race vehicle, resulting in improved engine response. In addition, you'll be able to equip the Track Edition with a carbon-fiber roof, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes to help shed off the extra speed you'll likely encounter as a result of that 35-horsepower boost. Carbon-fiber body parts and lightweighting elsewhere have led to a near-70-pound weight loss.

Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL's official renders leaked online
These include the returning 3.5mm headphone jack, thick bezels with no notch and a familiar girth notable to mid-tier devices. However, the devices will lose the 8 MP wide-angle camera found on the regular Pixel 3 devices with just one selfie snapper.

Differentiating the new Nismo-tuned GT-R are vented front fenders, lifted straight from the GT3 race auto, which are created to help evacuate hot air from the engine bay and provide extra downforce on the front wheels. The exhaust manifolds also get optimized turbo flange attachment points, which will make it easier to tune the GT-R without touching the manifold.

Confirmed to arrive in Australian showrooms before years end, the 50th Anniversary Edition will commemorate half a century of the GT-R nameplate with three unique exterior colour options, including the resurrection of the hero Bayside Blue of the R34 Skyline GT-R. The exterior gets a two-tone treatment with a bold over-the-top stripe created to pay homage to classic GT-R racing liveries. Other color combos include Pearl White with red stripes and Super Silver with white stripes.

Nissan began producing the Skyline GT-R in 1969.

The GT-R 50 Anniversary Edition might be an appearance package, but Nissan does have some minor performance updates for the full 2020 GT-R line. Additional 50Anniversary features include special trim on the shift knob and steering wheel as well as distinct embossed seats, a faux-suede headliner, and more.

The GT-R has gone through change after change after change after change.
