Alexander Ovechkin knocks out Andrei Svechnikov

If your name is Andrei Svechnikov, you probably regret dropping the gloves with Alex Ovechkin during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first round series between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night.

The fight occurred in the first period of Game 3 of the first round playoff matchup between the Capitals and the Hurricanes. Ovechkin caught Svechnikov with his right fist, sending the back of his head crashing hard into the ice.

Svechnikov lay on the ice, struggling to get up following the fight as a trainer came to attend him.

Team-mate Joel Embiid was reluctant to criticise the fanbase but says he can understand why some players would take exception. But they needed someone to step up and be the focal point of the offense, and D'Angelo Russell was more than happy to comply.

Men's beards are dirtier than dogs, according to new study
The study performed by the Hirslanden Clinic in Switzerland closely looked at the beards of 18 men and the necks of 30 dogs. Men are fighting back, of course, by saying that if men kept up with their hygiene, the bacterial count would be lower.

It was Ovechkin's first fight since December 12, 2010 when he got involved with Brandon Dubinsky. He won't return to the game due to an upper-body injury, according to the Hurricanes' public relations staff.

Ovechkin has fought just four times in his career and never before in the playoffs. Micheal Ferland also went to the locker room after a hit on forward Tom Wilson.

The 19-year-old Svechnikov who was taken No. 2 overall in last year's draft has two goals and an assist in the series.
