American tabloid National Enquirer put up for sale

AMI was granted immunity from the U.S. Attorney's Office by the Southern District of NY last December as part of a probe into President Donald Trump's former personal attorney and longtime fixer, Michael Cohen.

Bezos himself had suggested in his own online post that he had become the enemy of Saudi Arabia and Trump due to coverage of the murder of Khashoggi in the Washington Post, and pointed out that AMI had long sought to ingratiate itself with both the kingdom and the President.

The supermarket tabloid under fire for paying hush money to a former Playboy model to help Donald Trump in his 2016 presidential campaign is on the auction block. "Because of this focus, we feel the future opportunities with the tabloids can be best exploited by a different ownership".

In addition, according to one of WaPo's sources for the report, the move to put the tabloid up for sale was prompted by the hedge fund manager at the firm that controls a majority stake, who apparently got "disgusted" by the Enquirer's reporting as well as the longtime finally woes. The company agreed to stay out of trouble and "provide cooperation in the future".

Trump and his lawyers have argued the payments were a personal matter unrelated to the election.

Bezos said the tabloid promised not to publish the photos if he stopped his private investigators from trying to find out how the tabloid obtained the texts.

Cricketer guilty of raping sleeping woman
Jurors deliberated for 10 hours and 53 minutes before delivering a unanimous verdict of guilty on one count of oral rape. The former Worcestershire player was found guilty of one count of rape but Jurors cleared him of a second this Friday.

The Bezos story, though, was the final sticking point.

An American Media attorney denied that the tabloid committed blackmail, but the attack from Bezos threatened potentially big legal costs and at a bad time for American Media.

American Media is also looking to sell off the Globe and National Examiner.

American Media recently refinanced hundreds of millions of dollars of debt after years of heavy borrowing and acquisitions.

American Media Inc. announced in a statement that it made a decision to sell the National Enquirer, alongside its other tabloids, including the Globe and National Examiner brands.

AMI's stable of titles that are not up for sale include Us Weekly, OK, Star, In Touch, Men's Journal, and Muscle & Fitness. A representative from Chatham declined to comment, and Melchiorre did not respond to a call seeking comment.
