Australia police raid homes linked to New Zealand shooting

In NSW, counter-terrorism police assisting New Zealand investigators raided two homes on Monday, including one that's believed to belong to Tarrant's sister.

New Zealand's prime minister on Monday announced to introduce reforms in gun laws in the country, following the Friday's terrorist attacks on two mosques that left at least 50 people killed in Christchurch.

The changes, agreed to in principle by the country's coalition government Monday (March 18) - just 72 hours after the deadliest act of gun violence in New Zealand history - put the country in line with others that have taken swift action following tragedy within their borders.

New Zealanders possess an estimated 1.2 million firearms, meaning the country has a rate of roughly one gun per three people, according to The Guardian.

Other firearm owners have also given up their weapons.

Ardern, accompanied by the governor-general, Patsy Reddy, and Parliament Speaker Trevor Mallard, on Monday opened a national condolence book for victims for people to sign in the National Library in Wellington. "So that's simply what we'll be taking the time to get right", she added.

In the meantime, she encouraged individuals to surrender weapons similar to the ones used in the attacks to the authorities.

Authorities have accused a 28-year-old Australian, Brenton Harris Tarrant, of carrying out the horrific attack.

"I want to definitely state that we believe that there was only one attacker responsible for this horrendous event", Police Commissioner Mike Bush told a media conference.

Dozens of students then paid their respects, with many coming together for a haka - a traditional Maori ceremonial dance that has been performed by groups across New Zealand in the wake of killings.

Although it's unclear if Compton could also play fullback like Dozier. Not a bad signing at all at this stage of free agency. He got off to a decent start last season.

David Tipple, owner of Gun City, said the alleged gunman bought four "A category" firearms and ammunition through a "police-verified online mail order process".

Facebook said it would also remove edited versions, to stop "graphic content" being shared, although copies still appear to be available online.

Police said the airport in the southern city of Dunedin, had been reopened early on Monday after a suspicious item found on the airfield turned out to be a hoax object.

Mo, a volunteer who had flown in from Brisbane to wash the bodies, said the people who died in the mosques were classified as martyrs.

"But some people have said because it was not a battlefield it is OK to wash the body".

"We are so sorry for the families over there, for the dead and injured", he said.

"The process has been very emotional and highly stressful for all and you can imagine the emotions are running high, as in accordance with the Islamic faith, the families have wanted their bodies to be returned as soon as possible".

The Australian white supremacist charged in the massacre wasn't detected before his well-planned attack on two mosques and there have been concerns intelligence agencies were overly focused on the Muslim community in detecting and preventing security risks. "What we do know is that there are about 50,000 firearms imported into New Zealand every year and a large portion of that number are semi automatics".
