CoA to discuss Sreesanth ban issue: Vinod Rai

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the BCCI to reconsider the lifetime ban imposed on former fast bowler S Sreesanth for his role in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal.

Cricketer S Sreesanth expressed hope with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and stated that he will return to cricket soon.

The Supreme Court Bench, which also included Justice KM Joseph, had on 1 March reserved its order on the appeal against the Karala High Court order affirming the life ban imposed by the BCCI. "It's a huge relief". Its six years and I haven't played cricket, which was my life.

The BCCI had on February 28 told the apex court that the life ban imposed on Sreesanth was "fully sustainable in law" as he had "tried to influence" a match. I have been keeping myself fit and practising regularly. "I don't believe Ombudsman should be required if we can handle the issue in a BCCI SGM". "I am sure the BCCI will be kind to me and the decision will be in my favour", he said.

All US diplomats have left Venezuela, says Mike Pompeo
The United States has withdrawn all remaining diplomatic personnel from its embassy in Caracas as the crisis in Venezuela deepens. Opposition leader Juan Guaido in January declared himself acting president, which was rejected by Maduro as "sabotage".

Sreesanth, along with then Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were banned by the cricket board over spot-fixing, and Royals were debarred for two years from the IPL. However, the court rejected Sreesanth's plea that he should not be punished at all because he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case.

The bench made it clear that the 36-year-old Sreesanth must be heard by the committee on the quantum of the punishment.

"It is a welcome move by the Supreme Court that they have instructed BCCI to have a re-look at Sreesanth's ban". Sreesanth challenged the order in court in 2013. However, in two months, the High Court allowed BCCI's appeal and restored the ban. The issue of Sreesanth's ban might come up among the CoA on that day.

"This is a Supreme Court order and obviously a call needs to be taken. I just want to play whatever cricket I can", said Sreesanth, who has been a part of the 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup winning squads.
