Raiders release former Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson

The Oakland Raiders have released veterans A.J. McCarron and Jordy Nelson.

The Raiders plan to move to Las Vegas in the near future, but a new football stadium that's being built for them there won't be ready until fall 2020 at the earliest.

The Raiders will pay $7.5 million for nine home games (they have a "home" game scheduled for London), along with $750,000 in parking arrears, for 2019.

Had McCarron been on the Raiders' roster on Friday, he would have received a $1.9 million bonus, and $1.1 million of his $3 million base salary for the 2019 season would have become guaranteed, too. The Raiders gave Brown a new three-year deal worth up to $54.125 million, with $30.125 million guaranteed, a source told Schefter.

When the Raiders beat the Denver Broncos at home on Christmas Eve a year ago, it appeared it might be the final time that Oakland fans could cheer on their team in the Coliseum.

For those who are, of course, thinking the Packers could bring Nelson back, it's not out of the question - but it may need to be at a discounted cost compared to his previous Green Bay contract when he made $8.25 million in 2017.

The agreement still needs to be approved by the Oakland City Council and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors but Miley said he expects both boards to vote on it next week.

It's very possible that the Raiders told Nelson they were going.
