Apple iTunes Sale: HBO's Game of Thrones Season 2 for $9.99

The first of the final season "Game of Thrones" episodes will be arriving in 34 days to be exact, so you'll forgive us for getting excited about the smallest of details.

The news echoes a previous report from a January meeting of a group of TV networks in France that suggested the first two episodes of the final season would an hour each - and also predicted the last four episodes would be 80 minutes each. I'm pretty sure HBO never put any kind of limitations on how long episodes should be and we have actually had a longer episode already in Season 7.

That remark echoed what Thrones sound designer Paula Fairfield noted about the impending season 8 episodes.

HBO has updated its schedule to include the first two episodes of season 8, complete with runtimes.

The grand finale of Game of Thrones is coming, but according to the show's creators, some fans are not going to be happy with the long-awaited climax of the series.

Game Of Thrones Season 8's First Two Episodes Aren't Extra Long

With only six episodes to fit a whole season's worth of story into, Thrones will have to make the most of every minute of season 8.

As you can see, season 8 episode 1 will be 54 minutes long, and season 8 episode 2 will be 58 minutes long. There was some suggestion that each episode would be extra long, possibly movie-length. "I'm very satisfied with that, and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that, too".

Those runtimes are certainly shorter than some of the figures that were previously bandied about, with HBO programming president Casey Bloys at one point suggesting we'd be seeing 90-120 minute episodes, which was then walked back to "50-90".

EW.com will have daily GoT coverage up until launch and through the season.
