Manchester United ready to make superstar best-paid player in Premier League

Manchester United are prepared to give David de Gea the largest basic pay package in English football history and are increasingly confident he will sign a long-term contract extension with the club. The deal will be worth more than £90 million ($118 million) over five years.

The Spaniard, who was the subject of interest from Real Madrid in 2015 is set to follow in the footsteps of teammates Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, all of whom recently extended their contracts with the club.

According to the Mirror, the Times report that the Red Devils wish to make David the league's best player by offering him around £365k a week in a bid to convince him to extend his stay. If an agreement can be reached it would make De Gea one of the United's top earners alongside Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba.

United are prepared to recognise De Gea's status as one of the best goalkeepers in the world by rewarding the Spain worldwide with a new five-year contract that would make him one of the highest paid players at Old Trafford. De Gea has been with the club for nearly eight years and reportedly is close to signing an extension.

If that wasn't enough, caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of his too, stating that De Gea is "the best keeper in the world" and "challenging Edwin [Van Der Sar] and Peter [Schmeichel] for the No 1 spot historically".
