The Ministry of External Affairs said the state is an "integral and inalienable part of India" and the country's leaders make visits as they would go anywhere else in India.

Despite positive public overtures from the Indian leadership, visits of Indian leaders to Arunachal Pradesh have continued to raise hackles in Beijing.

"China urges the Indian side to proceed from the overall situation of bilateral relations, respect China's interests and concerns, cherish the momentum of improving relations between the two countries, and refrain from any actions that intensify disputes and complicate the border issue", the country's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Earlier in February previous year, China had voiced its "firm opposition" to the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Arunachal Pradesh, saying that it would lodge a diplomatic protest with India. The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Earlier on Saturday, the Indian prime minister was in the state to address a public rally as part of his Northeast tour. Both sides have held 21 rounds of talks so far through their Special Representatives to resolve the issue. Both India and China have sought to rebuild trust after the Doklam standoff in 2017.

Beijing said that such actions would affect the progress made by both sides, after the meet between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was seen as an icebreaker in Wuhan past year.
