Hewitt accuses Tomic of 'blackmail' and 'physical threats'

After blacklisting Bernard Tomic, Lleyton Hewitt has issued a stern warning for Nick Kyrgios to lift his game if he wants to play Davis Cup again.

Tomic claimed some players were picked for the Davis Cup team - and given Australian Open wildcards - because they were represented by a management company owned by Hewitt.

Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt claims he has been threatened "physically" and "blackmailed" by his former team-mate Bernard Tomic. I don't think anyone would reach out to a person that speaks like that, ' he said. He won't play Davis Cup while I have anything to do with it.

I haven't spoken to him since.

Asked what sort of threats, he replied: "They were blackmail threats and physical".

Kokkinakis and Kyrgios have done little to douse the flames since farewelling the Open in the first round, respectively refusing to endorse Hewitt as Australian captain and and condemning the skipper for his heavy focus on Alex de Minaur.

Tomic and Hewitt have been feuding since Tomic claimed Australia couldn't win Davis Cup matches without him, and Hewitt refused to select him.

Australia's qualifying tie next month in Adelaide is against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nick Kyrgios is also unlikely to play a role due to his sliding ranking and his attitude.

The combustible 26-year-old unloaded on Hewitt after being bundled out of the Australian Open at the first hurdle.

The former world No.1 said he wanted the Australian players to always give 100 per cent to the sport and also be great role models.

Results of no confidence vote in May expected soon
The only way May loses is if her own party members decide to vote against the government, i.e. shooting themselves in the foot. Or in the current extraordinary circumstances, some sort of cross-party alliance for a soft Brexit might be formed.

"Go away", he said of Hewitt.

"The biggest thing "Rochey" (Cup coach Tony Roche) I have is to set cultural standards and I feel Nick isn't meeting those".

The current friction in Australian men's tennis contrasts with the gentility of past stars like Rod Laver and Ken Rosewall and more recently, the likes of Pat Rafter overruling line calls and giving points to his opponents long before video replays existed.

Kyrgios has twice in recent weeks had a dig at Hewitt's courtside support of the country's No.1 Alex de Minaur above other Australian players.

After Tomic's comments, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios denied that they had any issue with Hewitt, but Kyrgios's Twitter comments on Wednesday night during de Minaur's match appeared to suggest otherwise.

The captain added in reference to Kyrgios' Instagram offering: "That is one of the standards, absolutely ... that we can't put up with for the culture of Australian tennis - we can't do it. I feel Nick still has a lot to learn".

Andre Agassi suspects there will only ever be one victor in Australia's Davis Cup war.

Hewitt responded by saying that he does not take Tomic's comments seriously.

He said he wasn't surprised by their success because he's seen their hard work this pre-season.

"He's a fighter and I'm sure he's going to fight on behalf of making his team as good as possible".
