Missing Wisconsin teen found after three months, kidnapping suspect in custody

"[Patterson] had no connection with the Closs family".

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald gave an update Saturday, calling the case still "very active".

"Jayme was the hero in the case".

"She is doing great", Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told "Anderson Cooper Full Circle".

Officers arrested 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson minutes after Jayme was found, based on the girl's description of his vehicle.

Fitzgerald said he was not yet aware of any plans for a community gathering to welcome Jayme home. The killing of Jayme's family and her own disappearance had been a major subject of news and attention in the area.

Closs was reunited with her aunt and the rest of her family. His initial court hearing is scheduled for Monday and records showed he does not have an attorney.

"I can tell you that the subject planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity from law enforcement and the general public", he said. "That's the million-dollar question, is why". "Jayme was the champion that finally said enough is enough", Fitzgerald said.

She said she and her husband once caught them siphoning gas.

The grandfather of a northwest U.S. girl held captive for months says the family has no connection to the man suspected of kidnapping her and killing her parents.

One aunt, Jennifer Smith, posted on Facebook Saturday that it was great to know Jayme was next to her all night and that it was a "great feeling to have her home".

Kristin Kasinskas told CNN that Jayme told them that she had been held captive not far away.

The Kasinskas said Jayme's emotions were "pretty flat" while they waited for the police and she refused offers of food and water.

Authorities have recovered several guns, including a shotgun they think was used to blow open the front door of the Closs family home and used to kill James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46. Smith added. She said her sister and brother-in-law can "rest at peace", adding: "I keep assuring them Jayme is safe and we will make sure forever".

Patterson went to the Closs home outside Barron, Wisconsin, with the intention of taking Jayme, Fitzgerald said. He surrendered peacefully, authorities said.

Patterson took such measures as shaving his head beforehand to avoid leaving evidence at the scene, the sheriff said. "She said that this person usually hides her or hides her when others are near, or when he has to leave the household".

Debra Tuders' daughter, Tabitha, was also 13 when she disappeared while walking to her bus stop in Nashville on April 29, 2003.

He has no criminal record, the sheriff said.

Patterson is unemployed, although worked for one day at the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Barron, where the Closs' worked for 27 years.

He may have worked at another business in Barron but that hasn't been confirmed, the sheriff said.

Investigators are working to establish a connection and don't believe Patterson and Jayme interacted on social media.

Jeff Closs, Jayme's uncle, said that the teen's return was shocking. "Call 911 right now!"

"She looked. kind of in rough shape".

She told the Associated Press that the 13-year-old had shouted "please help me, I don't know where I am, I'm lost".

They called for help.

Jake Thomas Patterson has been jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges.

Jeanne knew of Jayme's abduction and immediately recognized Jayme when the girl approached them, Forrest told MPR.
