Bernie Sanders Apologizes to Women Who Were Allegedly Harassed During His Campaign

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Thursday apologized to women who allege they were sexually harassed while working on his 2016 presidential campaign.

Over two dozen 2016 campaign staff alumni wrote a letter seeking a meeting with Sanders to "discuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment on the 2016 campaign, for the objective of planning to mitigate the issue in the upcoming presidential cycle".

"It now appears that as part of our campaign there were some women who were harassed or mistreated", Sanders wrote in a message he tweeted out Thursday afternoon to his almost 9 million followers.

Weaver is reportedly leaving because Sanders needs his staff to be more diverse after facing accusations of not understanding racial issues. And Sanders has been lambasted for what many say was a tone deaf and inept response to the allegations.

"To the women in that campaign who were harassed or mistreated I apologise".

Sanders, a potential 2020 contender, conceded in his Thursday statement that the "standards and safeguards" on the campaign were "inadequate".

"I'm not going to sit here and tell you we did everything right in terms of human resources", said Sanders. He also denied knowing about a discrimination settlement reached with his campaign that was disclosed in a Politico story.

Browns will hire Steve Wilks as new defensive coordinator
According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, the Browns will hire Wilks as the team's new defensive coordinator. That announcement is coming, eventually, and Kitchens has been working since Wednesday as the head coach.

Sanders' comments follow a Politico report that a former Sanders adviser, Robert Becker, had assaulted a female subordinate.

"This can't happen in 2020", the woman said in Politico. "You can't run for President of the United States unless you acknowledge that every campaign demands a safe work environment for every employee and volunteer".

The controversy-and the original decision to brush aside the concerns of his female former staffers-could cost Sanders the primary, said Bannon.

And Senator Cory Booker admitted years ago that he groped a girl while they were teenagers. The Vermont independent, who caucuses with Democrats, is among dozens of potential candidates mulling a 2020 bid against President Trump. "I apologize", he said. Rather, Weaver told CNN, he'd serve as "a strategic adviser that needs to deal with some of the 30,000-foot issues as opposed to the management of a day-to-day campaign".

This comes just a week after Sanders acknowledged his campaign failed to handle allegations properly.

Allegations of sexual misconduct and an "untenable and unsafe dynamic that developed during [the Sanders] campaign" have dogged the Vermont senator in recent weeks, according to Politico.

Kat Brezler, the other co-founder of the People for Bernie Sanders, said in a statement that part of coming together in support of a Sanders 2020 campaign would be to discuss best practices moving forward and to learn from past mistakes on campaigns.
