Cincinnati Bengals hope to hire Rams' Zac Taylor as head coach

The Cincinnati Bengals would like to hire Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor to be their next head coach, it was widely reported on Thursday. Taylor has experience at the local level, spending the 2016 season as the offensive coordinator at the University of Cincinnati.

The Bengals can not officially hire Taylor until the Rams' season ends, but Schefter added he is their preferred choice and it is his job to lose.

The 35-year-old Taylor would also become the second-youngest head coach in the league after McVay. Because the Rams are still in playoffs, they can't negotiate a contract.

New Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spent 2017 as the Rams' offensive coordinator under McVay.

Eleven days after it was announced that Marvin Lewis had been fired by the Cincinnati Bengals, the ball club has found its new head coach.

He interviewed for the Denver Broncos' and Arizona Cardinals' head-coaching vacancies before those teams hired Vic Fangio and Kliff Kingsbury, respectively.

Another note about this hire is that owner and general manager Mike Brown was not involved in choosing the next head coach. It will be interesting to see if this is a norm for the organization moving forward, and is something that Bengals fans will want to keep their eye on. The Bengals finished No. 17 in offense in 2018 but if Taylor is able to take what he learned from McVay and take it to the Queen City, the Bengals have the potential to greatly improve on that.
