Alabama Quarterback Jalen Hurts Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Jalen Hurts #2 of the Alabama Crimson Tide rolls out to pass against the Mercer Bears at Bryant-Denny Stadium on November 18, 2017 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Scarborough reports the former Alabama starter is expected to leave the program, but entering the transfer portal does not mean it is a guarantee he exits.

The portal is, according to AL.com, a new database that allows coaches to see players exploring transfers.

As a true freshman in 2016, Hurts set the single season Alabama touchdown record with 36 (quarterback Tua Tagovailoa broke that in 2018) and was named the SEC offensive player of the year.

The company says its software is clever enough to know if you're watching from your house or a holiday home. It can also distinguish users who are sharing passwords with friends or kids who no longer live at home.

Hurts was pulled by Nick Saban before the second half of the 2017 national championship game and was forced to watch Tagovailoa lead Alabama to a dramatic comeback 26-23 win over Georgia.

Because he completed his degree at Alabama, Hurts will be eligible to play wherever he wants in 2019. Hurts appeared in every game but two for the Tide and threw for 765 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions.

The news comes two days after Alabama was routed by Clemson in this year's title game, 44-16.

Averion Hurts, Jalen's father, told Bleacher report past year that his son could end up being "the biggest free agent in college football history".
