Grizzlies, Parsons agree to part ways

Chandler Parsons is in Los Angeles, working out to stay ready but away from the Memphis Grizzlies, to whom he is under contract.

The Grizzlies and Parsons' agent will work on placing him in another team and structuring a resolution on his future, the sources told ESPN. "Unfortunately that option wasn't presented to me".

At media day in September, Parsons said he thought his knee issues were past him after playing with no limitations during the summer.

Parsons has not played since exiting the Grizzlies' third game of the season because of soreness in his right knee, but was medically cleared on December 21. Instead, Memphis wanted Parsons to play in the G-League, something he was only willing to do if the team had a clear plan for him to play in games in the National Basketball Association.

The 30-year-old Parsons is owed $38 million from his four-year $94 million maximum contract.

The reason is Parsons is making $24.1 million this season (about $13 million of that still to be paid), and a fully guaranteed $25.1 million next season.

Police investigating suspicious packages in Melbourne and Canberra
In a statement , Victoria Police said they were aware that "a number" of consulate offices had received suspicious packages. Officials at the USA and British consulates separately confirmed suspicious packages had been received.

According to the report, the final straw between Parsons and Memphis centered around the possibility of the team assigning him to its G League affiliate. The team still believes Parsons will have value as an expiring contract, even if it takes into the offseason to make a deal. "Chandler subsequently chose to continue his rehab in Los Angeles".

Parsons had chosen to scrimmage 5-on-5 with the Grizzlies to prove his readiness in recent weeks and made a positive impression on the coaching staff and teammates with his ability to still contribute offensively, sources said.

Questions remain as to where Parsons will ultimately end up.

"Let's face it, the last two years have gone horribly and not the way I planned, but the reasons why I came to Memphis are still all intact", Parsons said then.

Since signing with the Grizzlies ahead of the 2016-17 season, Parsons has been riddled with injuries. Last season was his best in Memphis when he averaged 7.9 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor in 19 minutes per game.
