NHS 10-year plan launched in bid to save 500000 lives

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock said: "Whether it's treating ever more people in their communities, using the latest technology to tackle preventable diseases, or giving every baby the very best start in life - this Government has given the NHS the multi-billion pound investment needed to nurture and safeguard our nation's health service for generations to come".

After a year of consultation, the NHS has announced how it plans to spend the £20.5 billion promised by NHS England.

- Patients will be able to access health care at the touch of the button through a "digital front door" to the NHS.

- Cutting-edge scans and the potential use of artificial intelligence to improve stroke care.

She said that the new technologies would be introduced as part of a 10-year plan, with Baroness Dido Harding, the former CEO of internet service provider (ISP) TalkTalk played a key part in aspects of that plan.

The General Medical Council (GMC) suggested the United Kingdom should consider migrant workers in future workforce planning after a poll revealed many doctors were considering quitting the NHS or cutting their hours because they felt stressed or overburdened.

Half a million lives could be saved under ambitious plans to "fundamentally reset how the NHS is run" in England over the next decade, health chiefs claim today.

It is part of the aim to make digital services a mainstream part of the health service.

"This will cover clinical and operational processes across all settings, locations and departments and be based on robust, modern IT infrastructure services for hosting, storage, networks and cyber security", the long-term plan wrote.

The new scheme will include the creation of a new Alcohol Care Team, which will be rolled out in hospitals with the highest number of alcohol-related admissions. This, in turn, reduces the demand for health and care services.

Juventus interested in signing ‘great player’ Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal
Ramsey's impending departure comes after Arsenal's decision to withdraw the offer of a new £180,000-a-week contract in September. He helped us for confidence and to earn a good result. "He needs to think about his future but for now I want him here".

In the aftermath of the 2017 WannaCry attacks, and more recent reports of a breach of DNA data, this target may not be soon enough - but the starting point has to be considered, as it was recently found that a quarter of trusts have no staff with security qualifications.

He added: "At the heart of the NHS are hard-working staff who pull out all the stops to care for patients every day". "Over the next five years every patient in England will have a new right to choose this option - usually from their own practice or, if they prefer, from one of the new digital GP providers".

Similarly, the document brands the current outpatient model "outdated and unsustainable" - echoing the picture painted in a report from the Royal College of Physicians a year ago.

The government said it would redesign services over the next five years to remove the need for 30 million outpatient visits each year, which it said would avoid the associated £1.1bn bill.

May added that she "wanted to see the NHS make greater use of technology, not only to make healthcare safer and more effective - but to make the most of exciting new possibilities and give you greater control over your own care".

On the NHS tech team?

Next, the principle is that organisations across the NHS, local councils, innovators, and the voluntary sector, will all work more closely together so that they can focus on what patients need.

Baroness Harding will provide interim recommendations to me by the end of March on how the challenges of supply, reform, culture and leadership can be met, and final recommendations later in the year as part of the broader Implementation Plan that will be developed at all levels to make the Long Term Plan a reality. "But relations are frayed by shortages and increasing burnout, so some real leadership will be needed".

He said: "It tackles head on the pressures our staff face".

This additional funding is earmarked for increased digitalisation of GP practices, 24-hour mental health support, healthy living programmes, cancer testing centres and other services.
