Apple is beginning to phase out Connect

In a letter to artists obtained by Macrumours, Apple said that all previously posted content will remain discoverable until May 24 2019.

In some ways, the writing has been on the wall for a while, with an update to Apple Music removing the dedicated "Connect" tab, and relegating it to a bit buried below music recommendations.

Apple has removed the ability for musicians to use its Apple Music Connect feature, starting the process of shutting down the social function of its music streaming service. It joins the quickly forgotten Ping efforts from 2010, which was similar meant to help fans and artists better engage with each other.

Apple has reportedly been sending artists on Apple Music a notice saying they won't be able to post to Connect anymore.

Since the primary objective of Connect was for artists to, well, connect with fans, this likely means the feature is being completely shuttered down by May. So we've given Artist Pages an all-new design and added new, personalized Artist Radio. Apple hasn't made many forays into social media and it doesn't seem likely that we will see another platform from the company.

Apple Music provided a feed where artists could post and connect with their fans.

Connect launched alongside Apple Music in summer 2015. It's possible Apple doesn't want to double up on the feature.

Apple has removed Connect from its Apple Music streaming service.
