Turkey seeks arrest of two Saudi crown prince allies over Khashoggi murder

The warrants come a day after two U.S. senators made accusations bin Salman was involved in the killing of Mr Khashoggi.

Riyadh could "address those concerns" by extraditing the suspects to Turkey, the official said. Assiri and Qahtani were reportedly suspended from their duties but they do not face criminal charges.

"The global community seems to doubt Saudi Arabia's commitment to prosecute this heinous crime", the official continued.

Actor Sean Penn is filming a documentary on the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to Turkish media.

CIA Director Gina Haspel briefed two Senate committees on Capitol Hill earlier on Tuesday on the agency's findings about Khashoggi's murder.

The crown prince ordered and monitored the killing, Senator Bob Corker said.

Bob Corker said he had "zero question in my mind" it was Prince Salman, and Lindsey Graham said the "crazy" crown prince was "complicit" to the "highest level possible".

"It's not a smoking gun".

Khashoggi, a U.S. resident, was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2.

"It's obviously a tight calendar", Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said on Thursday, adding that the schedule is not conductive "to a long, dragged-out floor debate [on Saudi Arabia]". Regardless, his party members are sick of it, and a showdown between Trump and these senators seems inevitable.

That was referring to the culpability of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the murder, which took place inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

"Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Prince Khalid bin Salman, stated that 'the reports that suggest that Jamal Khashoggi went missing in the Consulate in Istanbul or that the Kingdom's authorities have detained him or killed him are absolutely false, and baseless, '" the resolution reads. Human rights groups say the war is wreaking havoc on the country and subjecting civilians to indiscriminate bombing.

The White House is refusing to pin the blame on the crown prince, apparently afraid of damaging relations. The move would punish both the president and the Crown Prince for their roles in killing or covering up the journalist's murder. Mike Lee, who championed of the resolution, were not included in the Haspel briefing on Tuesday. "I think the Saudis have got it in their heads that they can do whatever they want and get away with it".

The South Carolina Republican described the Saudi royal as "a wrecking ball", "crazy" and "dangerous".

"While I will not discuss the content of the Haspel briefing, it reinforced the need for a strong response to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi", the New York Democrat said.

"Every senator should hear what I heard this afternoon", Durbin said. Instead, he said, he would rally support for a different, broader effort against the kingdom - to cut off arms sales and military aid for the war in Yemen, and impose new sanctions on those responsible for the killing, including the crown prince.
