PETA asks people to stop using 'bring home the bacon'

Despite PETA being mocked, Dr Shareena Hamzah, a language expert at the University of Swansea, believes these types of phrases may increase in popularity as we start to think more and more about the ethics surrounding consuming animal products. "Those phrases should be replaced with "be the test tube", feed a fed horse" and "take the flower by the thorns", the organization says.

They're tried-and-true elements of the American language, but now, the animal rights group PETA wants you to stop using common phrases like "bring home the bacon" and "kill two birds with one stone" - suggesting that these idioms carry harmful messages.

The group took to Twitter on Tuesday, offering a graphic showing some possible alternatives to meat-related expressions. "This tweet of yours, equating "speciesism" with racism, homophobia and ableism is deeply disturbing".

Cardi B & Offset Have Officially Split Up
The rapper revealed on Instagram on Tuesday night that she and her husband of just over a year are 'not together any more'. But I can not be feeling insecure, to a point that I would drive my dude away, because these people want that to happen.

PETA's tweet comes after UK-based academic Shareena Z. Hamzah of Swansea University wrote in The Conversation last month about how "metaphors involving meat could gain an increased intensity if the killing of animals for food becomes less socially acceptable". The Root called it the "whitest tweet ever." French fries to fry?

In others words, the human species versus everyone else.

PETA responded to the criticism Wednesday, asking the "haters" to "lighten up" and for more suggestions on anti-speciesist language.
