Ted Baker staff launch petition over 'forced hugging'

Shares in Ted Baker have plunged more than 13pc after staff called for an end to the "forced hugging" and alleged inappropriate behaviour of the group's founder Ray Kelvin.

More than 200 people working at the company's headquarters signed a petition saying they want to "put an end to the awkward "hugging" policy", and also accused the brand's founder, Ray Kelvin, of harassment.

According to this year's Sunday Times Rich List, the 62-year-old is worth £522 million ($666 million) - ranking him the 244th wealthiest person in Britain. "Harassment at Ted Baker is well documented but willfully ignored by those in charge", the petition reads.

One former member of staff, who said she had not been hugged herself, said: "He would give long hugs: [the office] was a big open space where we all could see".

Elsewhere, the petition alleges that Mr Kelvin asked female members of staff to cuddle him, sit on his knee or let him massage their ears.
